Are politicians interested in themselves, or in doing some public good for the people who voted for them? Most will claim a lifelong ambition to serve for the betterment of society, but I think that is bullshit. Politicians are good at bullshit spreading; the aptitude for moral and ethical turpitude grows with each passing year as the subtle corruption of power spreads it`s way through their veins, a creeping rust that will eventually cover a once pristine shiny exterior.
There is always enough of a constituency out there that feel disenfranchised by a system they feel has bypassed them and gone straight for the money shot of fame and fortune; that place in the blazing sun of public office which not only provides endless attention on the upwardly mobile politician, but provides an endless gravy train of wealth and power.
If someone has no particular talent for the creation of art to please the soul, they could do worse than sell that soul in the furtherance of personal deification, as a politician who has made it to the top of a pecking order of intellectual nonentities.
